History

After being in Family Practice for 25 years, William Gonzaba, M.D., decided to start Gonzaba Medical Group (GMG) in 1986. The group was founded on the belief that “the patient always comes first”. He was joined by his two physician sons, Dr. Tom and Dr. Greg Gonzaba. Dr. Tom Gonzaba serves as GMG’s Medical Director and practices Internal Medicine at the Main Clinic. Dr. Greg Gonzaba practices Internal Medicine and Occupational Medicine at the Northwest Clinic and serves as Medical Director for Sea World of Texas.

Although he retired in 1997, Dr. William Gonzaba returned to his practice because of his desire to provide the high level of care patients have come to expect from the clinic that bears his name. In keeping with his vision, Dr. Gonzaba brought together a team of physicians who share his commitment to quality care, including Dr. David Padilla, who has been Medical Director for Gonzaba Medical Group since the 1990s.

Dr. Gonzaba, his sons, and Dr. Padilla are joined by a team of 24 Primary Care Physicians, 2 Hospitalists, 10 Physicians Assistants and Nurse Practitioner. In addition to the physicians and medical practitioners on his team, he has assembled a support staff devoted to customer service, and updated the clinics with the latest diagnostic capabilities including a state-of-the-art in-house MRI and complete radiology services. Gonzaba Medical Group is the only primary care group in the city to hold accreditation from the American College of Radiology.

Twenty-five years later Dr. Gonzaba has practiced for 50 years and continues to change the way healthcare is delivered. Dr. William Gonzaba, his family and staff look forward to years of helping the San Antonio community stay healthy, and welcome you to trust your family to ours.
