Dr. Montelongo earned his undergraduate degree from Incarnate Word College (University of the Incarnate Word) in San Antonio, Texas and graduated from Tulane School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed his residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.

Fluent in English and Spanish, Dr. Montelongo is a member of the American Medical Association, American Association of Family Practice, Texas Academy of Family Physicians, and the Texas Medical Association.
