When living with diabetes, your eyes are extra sensitive and need regular exams to detect irregularities early while intervention is still possible.
Senior Spotlight: Maria Shines as We Celebrate Seniors Month
Maria tells us that she has always lived by two important pillars– being thankful and giving back to her community. In her hometown of Nicaragua, Maria was a doctor and she would volunteer her time to give educational talks in low-income areas.
When she became a Gonzaba patient, she immediately felt like becoming part of a family. She has always been one to give and now she feels like she is receiving so much from Gonzaba. Since joining, she no longer struggles with diabetes, her scoliosis has become manageable and she has been able to do one of her favorite things– dance!
Maria’s advice to us is to always keep going, even if your pace slows down, even if you are slow to get up after you fall, always keep going.
In 2017, Dr. Bill Gonzaba, our CEO and founder, wanted to dedicate a whole month to recognizing the city’s senior community. September was named Celebrate San Antonio Seniors month– a month to spotlight the accomplishments and contributions made by the senior community.
